The HKS Adjustable Exhaust Cam Gear is designed for Nissan RB20DET, RB25DET, and RB26DETT engines that do not use the Nissan Variable Cam System (NVCS). It allows precise adjustment of exhaust camshaft timing to optimize horsepower, torque, and throttle response based on the engine setup, turbocharger, and other performance modifications.
The cam gear is manufactured from A2014 duralumin, a lightweight, high-strength aluminum alloy that offers approximately 50% greater strength and 30% higher hardness compared to previous versions. The improved material properties have also allowed a 10% reduction in weight, decreasing rotating mass and engine load while improving overall reliability.
The gear section features a nickel-plated finish that increases surface hardness and improves anti-friction properties. This provides excellent resistance to wear and makes the cam gear well suited for use with high-performance timing belts and the increased loads found in demanding engine applications.
The fully adjustable design allows precise valve timing control, which is especially important when using camshafts with increased duration or other engine modifications. By optimizing valve overlap, the engine's powerband can be tailored for maximum performance. HKS recommends pairing the cam gear with HKS camshafts to achieve the recommended valve timing settings, although it is fully compatible with both factory and aftermarket camshafts.
