Service & maintenance of coilovers

Time to clean and service your coilovers? Here you’ll find cleaning agents and lubricants designed to make maintaining your coilovers easier.

How to Clean Coilovers Properly

We often get questions about locking rings that seize or get stuck during adjustment. This is easy to avoid by keeping your coilovers clean and properly maintained - something many tend to skip unfortunately.

It’s no harder than washing the outside of your car, it just takes a little longer since you need to remove the wheel.
We recommend cleaning and maintaining your coilovers every time you change wheels (winter → summer & summer → winter), when making adjustments (most important), and once during the season.
When changing wheels, half the work is already done since the wheels are off anyway.
The easiest way to handle this during the season is to clean one shock absorber every time you wash your car in July - that way, it doesn’t feel like a big job!

How to Maintain Your Coilovers

  1. Remove the wheel
  2. Remove the coilover cover
  3. Rinse off the worst dirt with water
  4. Use a prewash or wheel cleaner (avoid the piston rod; the dust boot usually protects it but avoid spraying directly if possible)
  5. Use a wheel brush to loosen remaining dirt
  6. Rinse off all cleaner
  7. Dry the shock absorber completely
  8. Apply coilover grease to the threads
  9. Spray silicone spray on the rest of the shock absorber to make future cleaning easier (be careful not to spray onto the brake disc!)
  10. Reinstall the coilover cover
  11. Mount the wheel

Important: Always use a jack stand under the car. Never rely solely on a jack!
