BC-Racing DS series
Newly developed piston for better low-speed compression
BC-Racing's DS series is an upgrade on the best-selling BR. This is the perfect shock absorber for those looking for a track-inspired coilover for trackdays and street driving.
Here they use a new piston design, which gives the shock absorber a completely new feel in the low-speed compression. Low speed is what you as a driver recognize as roll, cornering, and rapid weight shifts in, for example, chicanes.
The big difference is that you have a piston that is no longer linear but has a decreasing curve through the damping. This way you get better cornering characteristics without affecting how the shock absorber absorbs bumps.
Since BC has an adjustable lower mount, you can set the height exactly as you want it without affecting the suspension travel or the preload on the spring. This is very appreciated as you can ride very low but still retain a large part of the comfort if you set the shock absorber to the softer side. If you want to stiffen the car, however, the hardness is easily adjusted using the adjustment screw located on the shock absorber.
If you are going to drive on a track, we recommend that you start with the standard kit, which performs very well on the track, and after a couple of tests on the track, you will feel whether you want to change the springs.
Extra Drop
If you want a kit adapted for a car that is going to go really low, choose Extra Drop. Then the kit is built about 2cm lower than standard and thus gives you the opportunity to lower another couple of centimeters. A very popular choice among those who stance their cars. The spring hardness can also be adjusted completely according to your wishes. Everything up to 24kg/mm is available for most car models. (With the exception of models that do not have the usual linear spring). With Extra Drop, we recommend increasing the spring rate by at least 2kg/mm for both the front and rear axle to avoid the risk of it dampening too much.
This costs nothing extra and is only noted at checkout and the kit will be changed especially for you!
Top mounts:
BC-Racing's kits are available with several different top mounts. Depending on which type (DN, DS, DA, DH) of DS kit it is, there are different top mounts. You can see which type this kit is in the name and which top mounts it is in the information under the Add to Cart button.
What difference do top mounts make?
A Pillowball top mount is the most common top mount for Track Racing and Stance cars. The reason for this is that in most cases it is adjustable with Camber (a few exceptions where the car's design does not allow Camber adjustment on the shock absorber). This allows you to adjust the wheel alignment perfectly for the best grip on the track or tilt the wheels to accommodate extra wide rims on the stance car. These have another advantage and that is that they do not flex anything like a Rubber Top Mount can do. The biggest disadvantage of the Pillowball Top Mount, however, is that it transports sound very well. This means that you can get a lot of road noise in the cabin with these mounted. Therefore, a Rubber Top Mount is preferable if you do not need to be able to set the Camber and will use the car on a daily basis. It provides a more comfortable car to drive in.
