What should you consider when buying pistons?
The thing to think about is what kind of engine to build. Should it be a turbo engine or a naturally aspirated engine? Should it run on ethanol or gasoline? Do I want a motor with wide power range or peak power? There are many factors that come into play when choosing pistons. Once you have decided, you can assume that a engine with forced induction should have a set of pistons with slightly lower compression than an engine without a turbo/supercharger. The reason for that is that if you were to push the fuel/air mixture into a cylinder where the compression is too high, the engine will stall. It will ultimately lead to a broken motor. On the other hand, if you run on ethanol, you can have a slightly higher comp. without it spiking as ethanol is more resistant to knocking (higher octane number).
As said, there is a lot to think about, but if you have the slightest doubt, don't hesitate to contact us and we will help!
